Light it up and Burn it Down By Lloyd and Ted Tosoff That girl was everything to me But she played lover’s make believe I thought she walked on sacred ground Rescued my heart on its way down Love was sweet like morning dew ‘n time stood still as we fell through I did my best to make her see What she wanted me to be Light it up and burn it down I packed my bags and I left town If I stayed I‘d o’ been hell bound Light it up and burn it down The truth fell hard like a stone wall In loaded silence I recall There in her eyes as plain as day Love was gone without a trace She said it all without a word Confirmed the rumors that I heard What I didn’t want to know I learned hard how to let go I burned that bridge I paid the toll Picked up my bags And hit the road Didn’t let the heartache come unwound Just said goodbye see you around Repeat Chorus ©®LloydTosoff 2015

Movin’ on from Memphis Standing on the highway shoulder of the northbound lane With my old friend Martin in my guitar case and 20 dollars to my name Me and that old six-string we’re trading in our dream It’s a long ride back to Boulder half broke and out of steam I’m movin’ on from Memphis She ain’t been good to me I played her honky tonks and bars Till she squandered all my dreams I gave her everything I had Now it’s time to set me free (for a change of scene) I’m moving’ on from Memphis It’s goodbye to Tennessee Thunder and lightning the sky is black as coal I got 15 miles behind me and a thousand more to go I can see the lights of Memphis still starin’ back at me Sayin’ turn around southbound get yourself back for another hit of misery Her neon lights are burnin’ bright to the sound of rhythm and blues She’ll keep you up all night make you feel alright You’re gonna pay Miss Memphis her due ©LloydTosoff2014

3) Beyond the Shadow of a Doubt I woke up at 40 Looking back down a long and winding road Squandered half my life And put a few good dreams on hold I picked up the pieces of a longing That lay scattered all about Searching for an answer that remains Beyond the shadow of a doubt I found a good woman Who loved me more than I could love myself She kept me standing upright Through so many times when life had gone to hell Though I thank my lucky stars That me and that old road have finally straightened out I keep searching for the light that still remains Beyond the shadow of a doubt I have walked the road between a sinner and a saint Nearly gave up what I am in exchange for what I ain’t I almost lost it all till I drove the devil out And let love lead the way Beyond the shadow of a doubt Now all I know for certain is The road I’ve travelled on is gonna end And I pray that I still have the time To do what I can to make amends Lord take the buried secrets of my fear And keep my soul safe in your house And when heaven calls to me I’ll gladly go Beyond the shadow of a doubt ©LloydTosoff2014

The Rodeo King He had balls as big as Texas Not a thinker by any means He mixed 90 proof liquor with a couple twisted sisters From a farm down in Abilene Daddy found ’em prone back around the woodshed And chased him through the front yard gate Nearly got him square with a barrel full o’ buckshot But daddy couldn’t shoot straight He was a red blooded, hell raisin’ whiskey drinkin’ Flag wavin’ woman chasin’ son of a gun Drove a 64 short box bored out Ford That smoked ’em all in the quarter mile run A good lookin’ bow legged Bronc ridin’ cowboy Could o’ been a bull ridin’ king Should o’ left them twin Texas sisters alone And kept his business in the rodeo ring With an out of state plate that just said ‘TROUBLE’ He wasn’t too hard to find It was rodeo week down around Brownsville When his fortune turned on a dime Them little twisted sisters and their big brother Bo Chased him halfway across the state Ran him off the road in a big assed Dodge And drove a push bumper through the tailgate They hog-tied and shoved him in the backseat With a sister on either side The king was in a fix and he knew he had to pick One o’ them ready-made brides He just smiled and looked at the one And then at the other and said Though I’m in a bind I ain’t the marrying kind Y’all can kiss my ass instead Word travelled fast that his better days had passed But they settled with him in the end With more than just a kiss cause Daddy didn’t miss And the king could never ride again ©LloydTosoff2014

Too Many Bridges He burned too many bridges In his reckless life Wouldn’t back down from no one He just lived for the fight Never felt any sorrow Or much of anything else But the chip on his shoulder And the pain of his hell Like a renegade outlaw On the run from his lies He’ll never give up and he'll never back down Burning it up till the end comes around Too many bridges Too many bridges Too many bridges To burn another one down He still gives ’em the finger Though there’s no one around In the face of his anger Self-right ’n hell bound He’s a foregone conclusion A predictable rhyme A slow dance with delusion Always one step behind Like a renegade outlaw Near the end of his days He drowns in the grief of his self-made despair Alone he’ll die angry wishing someone was there ©LloydTosoff2014

Tin Can Holler I got a loaded gun rack in my big-assed truck A couple missing front teeth from some fightin’ bad luck My working man daddy thought he taught ‘is boy well My mamma was church going proper southern belle They say I’m a handful of trouble when I drink Big as bear fast as a timber swamp lynx 300 pounds I can take a man down Put ‘em out stone cold before he hits the ground Hubert McCoy Ain’t a good ol’ boy Just a black sheep Ain’t no mama’s pride ‘n joy Not a city slicker Making barely legal dollars Just a simple green farmer down in Tin Can Holler I’ve never worked a dog damn day in my life Got a Marlin deer rifle and a combat knife Some dank weed growin’ tall back in the woods Keeps me in a little money ‘n feelin’ pretty good I’ve been disaffected by my family of birth Cause I grow the best weed on God’s green earth Wouldn’t hide my redneck with a stiff blue collar Name o’ Hubert McCoy I live in Tin Can Holler I’m a person of interest in a capital case Got a lock tight alibi the heat can never trace Ain’t no sign of Hubert not a drop o’ DNA Whoever did the deed put ‘im in a shallow grave When you’re the business and you plan to stay alive You learn yourself a secret and a tactic to survive Keep your mouth shut and your back against the wall Let ‘em think you’re bullet proof and ten feet tall ©LloydTosoff2014

Road To Somewhere It wasn’t out in California Where the sun always shines Or out in West Virginia South of the Mason Dixon line You’ve been searching high and low On this long and winding road But you haven’t found it yet A place that you call home On this road to somewhere Along a broken white line You hold your breath And take a leap of faith Hoping the future might find A little comfort out there To melt away your anger and despair With a dream and a prayer On this road to somewhere People say that you’re a dreamer Well I guess it must be true You never know where you’re headed Where life might lead you to There’s aching in your restless soul A part of you remaining undisclosed Nobody’s ever gonna know You’re a rock that was born to roll Someday you’re gonna wake to find That your life has come and gone Still you wouldn’t have a last regret You’d sell your soul for a song ©LloydTosoff2014

Takin’ It Rough It was too late to say I loved her She said that it wasn't enough I foolishly thought there was a chance till I stood All alone on the backside of love All I can hear is the sound of my footsteps And her voice as it rings in my head With a heart full of sorrow I can't get used to Her empty side of the bed I'm taking it rough I'm taking it rough I should talk to myself That it's gonna get better But I'd just be pushing my luck I'm taking it rough Somewhere between her heart and mine I must have missed her last call I should have listened to the cues she was giving When the writing was there on the wall Was it something I did or I didn't do? I guess that I'll never know Looking back now I wish I knew how Late my heart was for the show I'm learning hard in the end all that matters Is the love that defines who you are It's not what you promise it's what you deliver What I gave didn't go very far And I’m taking it rough I’m taking it rough I'll never live down the last words she told me As she set down her bags at the door I'm leaving so please don't try changing my mind Cause I don't love you anymore ©LloydTosoff2014

Briefcase and a Gun Richie was a chip off his daddy’s block A spoiled little so and so from noble British stock Harvard educated Magna Cum Laude Mamma’s little darling made his rich daddy proud In an east side ghetto where the crime rates are high You’ll probably take a bullet by the time you’re 25 Jimmy learned a thing or two livin’ on the street In and out of juvenile with a long rap sheet Richie’s got a briefcase Jimmy’s got a gun Doin’ business on the fly ’n makin’ money on the run It isn’t any secret how they got to #1 Richie’s got a briefcase Jimmy’s got a gun Richie made it big on his family name Did a couple murky deals in the mortgage fund game Had a reputation making dirty money fast Filled his gold-trimmed briefcase with tear-stained cash Jimmy was the target of the Brooklyn 99 Headed up the 18th but never did time Had a social standing as a dude you should avoid If you crossed little Jimmy you’d be null and void Richie’s got a briefcase Jimmy’s got a gun They should get together and show ’em how it’s done Wouldn’t need a bailout they’d never have to run Richie’s got a briefcase Jimmy’s got a gun You could never catch Richie’s hand in the till Cause Richie was a Mensa with a penchant for the thrill He could screw you over and you’d never even know It was an empty Ponzi scheme Richie pilfered all the dough Concerned about his image and his dark gangster past Jimmy’s days were numbered if he couldn’t make it last He moved his action uptown Jimmy tempted fate Partnered up with Richie now they own the fuckin’ state Richie’s got a briefcase Jimmy’s got a gun They had to get together to show ’em how it’s done They don’t need a bailout they’ll never have to run Richie’s got a briefcase Jimmy’s got a gun Richie’s got a briefcase Jimmy’s got a gun You’d think they’d do some time for all the damage that they’ve done But when y’ got a lawyer who can keep the story spun And a banker in Geneva who can launder all the funds You can give ’em all the finger while y’ smile at everyone Richie’s got a briefcase Jimmy’s got a gun ©LloydTosoff2014

Rose Was Her Name I kissed her goodbye for the first and last time On her cherry lips so divine Not a word was spoken nor a promise was broken As I left that rose on the vine Like two ships in the night in passing delight There was nothing to judge or to blame I shared the night with a stranger I only know Rose was her name I only know Rose was her name She touched my heart like a hot burning flame We could have been more Than we bargained for But I only know Rose was her name A couple bottles of wine sure made us feel fine We woke in a naked embrace I looked at her and she looked back at me With an angelic smile on her face She didn’t want much but a warm tender touch Knowing I’d never see her again When I said goodbye with a tear in her eye She told me that Rose was her name As she stood at the door I could not ignore A look that could stop a man’s heart When I kissed her goodbye with a tear in her eye Sorry that we had to part With a weight of regret I can never forget That sweet mix of pleasure and pain The night I nearly fell for a sweet Southern Belle But I only know Rose was her name I only know Rose was her name She touched my soul like a hot burning flame We could have been more Than we bargained for Rose you’re my favorite old flame I long to hold you ‘n kiss your sweet lips If I could just see you again Her mem’ry holds more Than I bargained for I only know Rose was her name ©LloydTosoff2014

Deep Fried Double Wide Had a job on a line down in Knoxville till they let the nightshift go Said it was a temporary layoff but that was five years ago They gave Bobby Joe his notice then they took away his home Bobby Joe ended his own life left a wife ’n his boy alone I’ve known Bobby Joe’s family since I was ten years old He could get a little wild but everybody knew that Bobby had a heart o’ gold His mama and papa they didn’t think twice ’bout raisin’ up the boy When his wife ran off and left behind Bobby’s pride and joy Deep fried double wide We like our long necks cold Don’t want a free ride Hell a man’s got pride But we’ve been bought and sold Deep fried double wide They fed us down the chute I didn’t know the devil Wore a three piece suit We buried Bobby down by the Sycamore where the Tennessee River bends He was a church goin’ God fearin’ good ol’ boy so we gave him a proper end The Pastor came down from Knoxville to give Bobby his last rites It was a moonless sky nearly black as coal when Bobby met the Lord that night Peace lovin’ folks around these parts ain’t the kind to make a scene But that dirty low blow to the workin’ man was a crime that’ll never come clean You can take your downsize strategy and shove it where the sun don’t shine We all got caught in a Credit Swap with the roll of a rich man’s dice Had a job on a line down in Knoxville till they let the nightshift go Said it was a temporary layoff but that was five years ago If Bobby looked down on this sub-prime town he’d probably say y’ all got burned When y’ signed away your future on the strength of a banker’s word

Sweet Marie 03:34
Sweet Marie I had a reputation as a womanizing fool Got my education playing Hooky skipping school Had my pick of women one that tried to gun me down Had to dodge a bullet so I jumped aboard that midnight hound When that bus pulled into to Houston I was merely passing through An angel’s face made my heart race and skip a beat or two I looked into her big brown eyes and I fell for that girl head over heels My ramblin’ days were over my fate was written signed and sealed Sweet Marie That woman lit a fire inside of me Sweet Marie I finally met my match in sweet Marie She stopped me stone cold in my tracks When I found myself in sweet Marie She was all the lady till the lights went out Underneath the covers dear Lord shut my mouth She rolled my eyes back in my skull and made the night turn red Kept me up all night rockin’ on her big brass bed I thought I knew my women but I learned a thing or two When more than you can handle is less than you can do Don’t overstay your welcome it’s a guaranteed road to ruin I tried to satisfy her mornin’ night and noon Then one day it happened and I caught her in the act I could o’ shot ‘em stone cold dead but I just grinned at him instead Sweet Marie That’s when I made my break from sweet Marie Sweet Marie She was gonna be the death of me I thanked the Lord for my deliverance Forgiveness for my sins I was grateful for redemption from the fix that I was in….with

Tennessee Water We’re good ol’ boys back in the hills We got pickin’ strings and whiskey stills We hoot ’n holler as we drink our fill Every Friday night up on old Church Hill I run corn whiskey down the Cumberland Gap With a 45 special sittin’ on my lap A hundred miles an hour down an old dirt road With a full moon shining on a hundred proof load I run moonshine in a big block Ford I’m a family man and I praise the Lord I got it made in the shade of a backwoods holler With an old stone well filled with Tennessee water Daddy lost his job with the TVA He had three hungry mouths ’n there were bills to pay With mama’s pressure cooker and some old copper line He used an old family recipe to make moonshine He let me ride along when I turned thirteen I got a first rate lesson in the bootleg scene Headlights shinin’ through the dark backwoods With 400 horses pulling under that hood He took five pounds o’ cornmeal some granulated sugar A fuel tank of water it was ready for the cooker He poured in the malt and the still got hot He turned corn mash to whiskey The ABC took us down one day Ran us off a bridge south of route 2A Daddy couldn’t swim and he took his last breath But I made it to the shore with all the strength I had left I love my mama and my daddy too They taught me how to live by a simple rule When a man’s got a wife and a son and a daughter He’s gotta make a living somehow He’s gotta do his family proud

One Shot at a Time Words and Music by Lloyd Tosoff SOCAN/BMI Verse 1 By the time he was 29 he had it made With a song on the charts It was stone cold and hit bound ‘bout a honky tonk heart Said he’d never make 40 Livin' hard and carryin' on We all said boy you better slow down He was one goodbye from gone Verse 2 They still play ‘im on the radio Every now and then Sang like a homesick angel Raisin’ hell was heaven sent We all tried to warn him But he wouldn’t go dry He just laughed and poured another Said no one here gets out alive Chorus You can’t blame Jack Daniels When you drink away your life There were lights on his name Fortune and fame And a beautiful wife But that old pride of Lynchburg is like a Colt 45 Cause whiskey can kill you One shot at a time Verse 3 It was his last date down in Mobile But he never made the stage The MC introduced him But he didn’t hear the page They found him in the Green Room On the floor white as a ghost With his right hand on the bottle He never made his final show ® ©Lloyd Tosoff

I'm driving with my baby, it's a Saturday night, I'm going to find us a place by the river where we can go walking in the moonlight Like we used to do, honey me and you Looking like an angel in my old baseball cap She melts my heart when she turns her pretty head and looks at me like that There's a twinkle in her blue eyes Make's me glad to be alive It's been 30 years since I married that girl I'm a lucky man And I ain't ashamed to say she still rocks my world, I'm a lucky man Ain't I a lucky man, yeah I'm a lucky man Yes I am There's a warm summer wind blowing soft through the branches of the Georgia pines With the windows rolled down and the radio up, playing Tulsa Time Don't it make a perfect rhyme, I'm so glad I made her mine How we made it through, heaven only knows But ther's got to be some rainy days to make love grow We don't have a million dollar house or a seven figure bank account But we got something other lovers crave and they can only ever talk about We got everything we need and it's as good as it can ever be

about

Music has always been a part of my life and songwriting is in my blood. After 20 years away from the music scene in 2014 I was wooed back by my brother Ted who has made music his life's work. I started writing again and together Ted and I formed a studio band, Conscious Rednecks. It is for this reason that the record has a signature band sound, especially the vocals. The band project fizzled and we finished the record with some of the best musicians in the Canadian music scene. I was encouraged to released the album solo by Brian Wadsworth, who believed in the songwriting and whose track record as a music talent manager precedes him. On this record you will hear what folks like Nashville songwriting legend (The Ride, Corvette Song) Gary Gentry and many others said is some really good songwriting as well as a lineup of great players and world class artists like Stonebolt's Ray Roper who sang many of the backup vocals and Darby Mills from the rock act Headpins who made a guest appearance on "Takin' it Rough". You will be treated to great sounds and great playing so take the time to listen. The lineup of musicians is world class;
