(A Love Song) “For You” Words and music by Lloyd Tosoff Verse 1 Somehow, You came, As if you heard me calling your name, Out loud, Ah, but I didn’t say a word, Just when I thought, That I’d had enough, I was given one more chance to find true love, Now Heaven’s missing an angel. Chorus You are, The most beautiful girl (one) in the world, There isn’t anything, Anything I wouldn’t do, For you. Verse 2 One night, Two hearts, Perfect lovers right from the start, Who knew? We’d make it down the road this far, Just when I thought, I’d run out of luck, You touched my heart and opened it up, Now I’m holding an angel. Instrumental Bridge Bridge I love you now, I’ll love you till forever, Passes away, I swear I will, Nothing can come between us, I give my heart and my soul, To you. Chorus x 2

Breaking Bad 03:56
“Breaking Bad” Words and Music by Lloyd Tosoff Verse 1 We all used to think he was a hero, A legend ahead of his time, From a pedestal right back to zero, Goes to show life can turn on a dime, From the talk of town, To making the rounds, Feeling like a washed-up has-been, Never moved on from the old school, He’ll never leave what he still believes, Were the best days of his life behind. Chorus Round and round, it goes, Certain that nobody knows, Which way that dime’s going to land, Every dog has it’s day, Before life takes away, Time that you borrowed, But never really had, Yesterday, When you were still, Breaking bad. Verse 2 She was something of a rising sensation, Envied by the moon and the stars, She hung on too long where she didn’t belong, Queen of the vanquishing heart, From the belle of the ball to a tenement hall, Jaded and nobody’s friend, Never got over what she used to be, She’ll never leave what she still believes, Were the best days of her life behind. Instrumental Bridge Into the arms of temptation, A shadow creeps in from the past, For a taste of pride grace is forsaken, In false hope that the moment might last, I’ll bet you never thought you’d end up grounded, Like a shipwreck tossed up on the shore, Though the truth may be cruel and unfounded, There ain’t a star in your show anymore. © Lloyd Tosoff Reviews

Hurts So Bad 03:01
Hurts So Bad Words and Music by Lloyd Tosoff Verse 1 She was too good to be true, Like the eye of a storm, Living proof every minute, That a lovesick fool is born, I should have seen it coming, Yeah, I guess I should have known, But love was blind, To what she was all about, I didn’t see the light, Until the flame went out. Chorus It felt so good, Till it hurt so bad, I didn’t have a clue, I never knew, I never knew, I never knew, That I’d been had, She was so over me, I was just a passing fad, But, It felt so good, It felt so good, It felt so good, Till it hurt so bad. Verse 2 We were so good together, We fit just like a glove, I was so into her, I couldn’t get enough. I followed my foolish heart, Right down to the letter, Did everything right, Till it turned out wrong, You can’t place your trust, Where it doesn’t belong. ©Lloyd Tosoff Reviews

“The World Called Him George” Words and Music by Lloyd Tosoff Verse 1 90 proof liquor fueled the trouble he made, Flat broke, drunk, and busted was a small price to pay, Cause the money flowed like water that he flushed down the drain, But when he sang you could feel every word, Like it was your own pain. Chorus The world called him George, But his friends called him Jones, The best country singer that the world’s ever known, He could laugh at the devil when there was whiskey in his veins, Drove everyone crazy getting wild and living hard in the fast lane. Verse 2 When he met Tammy, we all thought he’d settle down, When they sang together, Dear Lord they were the talk of the town, But he never lived it down when he let their love die, At the bottom of a bottle Where the devil wouldn’t let him go dry. Verse 3 George never recovered from his greatest loss, But Tammy couldn’t help but grow tired of the line he wouldn’t walk, She loved him through it all till she passed away, Though they laid her in the ground They couldn’t bury what was left of love’s last remains.

“The Best Thing in my Life (ain’t meant to be)” Words and music by Lloyd Tosoff Verse 1 There’s nothing like a storm in Oklahoma, Driving rain with fire and thunder ‘cross the plain We can’t take shelter in the eye of a tornado, Or ask love to go back the way it came, If we could meet again and just start over If love could grant one wish for you and me, I’d click my heels and take you back home to Oklahoma, But the best thing in my life ain’t meant to be. Chorus So go ahead and board that greyhound bound for Tulsa, I’ll find myself a new life here in Tennessee, The worst is yet to come now that it’s over, Cause the best thing in my life ain’t meant to be. Verse 2 You said by now you hoped we’d turn a corner, And realize the promise that I made, Your angry words are steeped in disappointment, And your last goodbye cut just like a blade, There’s no turning back and no redemption, Even if I got down on my knees, There’s no future for us back in Oklahoma, Cause the best thing in my life ain’t meant to be. Last Chorus and Tag So go ahead and board that greyhound bound for Tulsa, I’ll stay and chase my foolish dreams in Tennessee, Though the worst is yet to come now that it’s over, There’s storm clouds for far as I can see, I know I’ll never live down losing you, Can’t make you change your mind and still believe, So, I wish you all the best in Oklahoma, You were the best thing in my life, The best thing in my life. The best thing in my life that ain’t meant to be. ©Lloyd Tosoff

I Love the Sound of a Train Words and Music by Lloyd Tosoff Intro Verse 1 I love the sound of an old freight train, As her whistle blows sad on the midnight wind, On the wrong of lonesome I hear her calling, I love the sound of a train. Verse 2 I love the sound of a hundred-ton diesel, As a thousand wild horses pull the load down the track, And the call of her thunder as her big wheels keep rollin’, Till she’s gone and she ain’t comin’ back. Chorus I love the sound of an old freight train, A hundred cars long filled with lumber and grain, When I’m aching for freedom she calls out my name, I love the sound of a train. Verse 3 My spirit soars high when I hear that Great Northern, Rounding the bend about five miles away, If I was a young man I’d jump a Scharfenberg coupler, Climb up the ladder and ride my life away. Verse 4 I love the sound of an old freight train, As her whistle blows sad on the midnight wind, On the wrong of lonesome I hear her calling, I love the sound of a train. © Lloyd Tosoff 2017

I Can’t Do This Anymore Words and music by Lloyd Tosoff Verse 1 You must think that I can hear the voices in your head, As I suffer at your anger and the sorrow you can’t shed, You wallow in your self-made prison shrouded in despair, Don’t know why I do, but somehow, I still care. Chorus I know that it’s just another twisted call for love, In badly placed emotion but I’ve finally had enough, It’s time to say one last goodbye I’m leaving through that door, I’ve had one too many heartaches, I can’t do this anymore. Verse 2 I have been your victim like a beggar on my knees, Took the blame for all your dreams that never came to be, I stood right behind you while you struggled in the dark, Gave until hurt and left me wounded with these scars. Bridge Slamming doors and unkind words that cut me till I bled, And you made sure you always had the last word that was said, The bond between our hearts is broken scattered all around, As I rummage through the ruins of a lover’s lost and found. Verse 4 Breakdown I reach out to touch you, but you turn away from me, Consumed by the emotion that you demand I feed, I can’t open up your shrouded heart with wings to set you free, So, I stand here in forgiveness but there’s no more time to heal. © Lloyd Tosoff

A Whaler’s Tale Words and Music by Lloyd Tosoff Verse 1 John Murphy was a Bonny good sailor, and a bloody good whaler was he, Hunted the whales round the Cape of the Horn, as he sailed on the seven blue seas, From a long line of crusty old seamen, who hunted the blubber and bone, For Spanish doubloons they’d shoot rusty harpoons, in deep waters where Moby Dick roamed. Chorus That old whaler was a Bonny good sailor, Knew ever tack of the sail, Sure as he was born said he’d die at the Horn, For a share of Cetacean tail. Verse 2 His father was a good Irish Catholic, his mother a willing Colleen, When he asked for her hand, there was no wedding band, as that sea dog went down on his knee, Born on the outskirts of Dublin, christened in the cold Irish Sea, Young Murphy took after his father before him, set sail when he was just thirteen. Chorus Verse 3 The young lad soon took to the waters, had a feel for the gun and the lance, Sired three sons and five daughters, in ports from New England to France, Had a woman at his pleasure in every port of call, plied with a wee tot of rum, And while John aimed to please with his knickers to his knees, he was gone before the rise of the sun. Chorus Instrumental Heave ho, it’s time to go, old sea dogs, From the deep, there she blows. Verse 4 After 35 years and 500 whales, Murphy met his final match, After nailing one of Moby Dick’s females, they put her blubber down a whaling ship’s hatch, Just as the sun passed the yardarm, Old Murphy stood alone on the plank, Downing a mickey of old rotgut whiskey, Moby swam in from the flank, When Murphy caught a glimpse in the spyglass, that monster dove under the waves, Breached in the air at the old gunner’s dare and sent Murphy to a watery grave. Bridge That old whaler was a Bonny good sailor, He knew ever tack of the sail, Final Chorus and tag Sure as he was born he died at the Horn, With a slap from old Moby Dick’s tail, He drowned at the Horn at Moby Dick’s scorn, Chasing cetacean tail. © Lloyd Tosoff

On Your Side of the Bed Words and Music by Lloyd Tosoff Verse 1 I could tell a lie and say that I don't hurt no more, That I don’t drink too much or walk the floor, That your new love ain’t my concern, And I don’t toss and turn, Talking to myself and these four walls. Chorus Till I stumble and fall, And I suddenly recall, When empty calls your name, And my whole world comes tumbling down, A thousand yesterdays have come and gone, Between losing you and holding on, To the pillow where you laid your head, On your side of the bed. Verse 2 I could laugh and I tell myself I’m doing fine, That I've driven what's left of your memory out of my mind, That I put my heart up on a shelf, At least that’s what I tell myself, As the lonely sound of my own footsteps follow me around, Bridge I close my eyes and I see you. I guess it must be Deja Vu, Wish your ghost would take it's final breath. © Lloyd Tosoff

The Coal Glen Mine Disaster Words and Music by Lloyd Tosoff Verse 1 There’s a broken-down shack on a rural dirt road, Down in the glen where Deep River runs cold, They boarded up the entrance to the Coal Glen Mine, Back in 51 for the very last time. Verse 2 It was just after sunrise near the end of May, In a dark plume of smoke night fell on the day, The pillars gave way in the mine shaft below, The Carolina soil where the cotton fields grow. Chorus In North Carolina, There were 53 souls, Buried in the rubble, Of the Deep River coal, 38 widows when the tunnel came down, Now there’s nothing left today but an old ghost town. Verse 3 The folks around Pitt County feared the worse by the sound, As a sudden blast like thunder shook the Farmville ground, The roar of a hurricane’s poisonous fumes, Filled what was left in that tunnel of doom. Verse 4 The mine boss stood his ground but somehow kept his head, Knowing full well that his men were all dead, He and three others through the depths of that hell, Watched water rushing in like a freshly drilled well. Verse 5 Folks rushed to the scene and the rumors spread fast, As black dust settled down by the open mine shaft, In miracle below alive six men were found, Saved from the blast further underground. Verse 6 When the mine boss found the tunnel the second blast came, He knew every man by their first and last names, They prayed to the Lord, please save our poor souls, Don’t bury us alive in the Carolina coal. Verse 7 48 hours and a thousand men strong, Toiled like the devil but all hope was gone, Loved ones they gathered and prayed for a sign, But their good faith was buried in the depths of the mine. Verse 8 They listed the victims both colored and white, When they raised the last miner on a Saturday night, They loaded up the trains destined near and far, Laid five men to rest in the local church yard. Verse 9 Grief stricken wives, daughters, and sons, Who breathe in the dust that earns a lethal black lung, 96 years since that ill-fated day, Cast a dark pall on the Carolina clay. Verse 10 So, load up the trains and sully the air, Make the coal barons rich and the workers thread bare, Remember the day the main shaft turned blood red, And the cursed Glen Mine finally gave up her dead, © Lloyd Tosoff 2021

Endless Highway Words and music by Lloyd Tosoff Verse 1 I believe in miracles, And love at first sight, And how to walk line, Between wrong and right, When it came down to the last round, I left with a few loose ends, In search of one more rainbow, Just around the bend. Chorus So, I’ll keep rolling, I’ll keep moving on, With my hands on the wheel, And my eye on the road, Down a broken white line, Till there’s nowhere left to go, Yeah, I’ll keep rolling, Down this endless highway. Verse 2 Been an aimless rambler, Often lost my way, You could say I’m a lucky man, Had a few long shots that paid, Gratitude for what I have, And some unanswered prayers, Had no destination, But somehow, I got somewhere. Bridge I’ve been down a time or two, But I got up off the ground, Dusted myself off, And turned my luck around, Thank my lucky stars, That I’m still standing tall, With an eye on the door, And my back against the wall. ©Lloyd Tosoff

about

Still Breaking Bad is my 3rd music album and I am very proud of the fact that I wrote, produced, engineered and performed everything except the drums, pedal steel guitar, fiddle and mandolin which are performed by some of Canada's premier musicians. The prerelease YouTube videos for Still Breaking Bad have logged upwards of 70,000 views so far, with hundreds of likes and many positive comments. The lead track, :For You" was posted last month and is headed for 10,000 views very soon.

The sonic quality is top notch thanks to the mixing work by David Hermiston, who is the musical partner (and more) to Toronto based Juno nominated #jazz artist, Amanda Tosoff (my very talented daughter). The mix and mastering is superb, a sonic masterwork.

I will fully release the album in 2024 to streaming services and on a limited edition of 12" vinyl records. If you are interested, please contact me at lloydtosoff@gmail.com. Also go to lloydtosoff.com to learn more about my creative writing projects
